FEDERAL STYLE

FEDERAL STYLE BUILDINGS

The Federal style evolved from the Georgian style, possibly even just as a refinement to the preceding Georgian Style. The name comes from our newly found independence and creation of our new government. It was strongly influenced by British architect Robert Adam, with strong Greek and Roman influences.

Stylistically, the buildings were usually square or rectangular in configuration with understated details, confining decorative elements to specific features, rather than on all portions of the building.

Material used varied between regions, depending on climate and fire-proofing needs.
